Fatal accident on Highway 240: 2 cars vs. 1 pedestrian

KENNEWICK -- WSP reported that two vehicles hit a pedestrian around 1:00 a.m. Sunday, killing him. James McKiernan, 23, was walking in the right lane on Highway 240 in Kennewick, near Edison Street.

The cars were heading east on 240, at the time. The drivers were not injured, but one of the cars was totalled. Troopers say it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved and no charges have been filed at this point. It is also unclear why McKiernan was in the road.
